Kitchen Table

I took the day off of work today and went exploring the Antique Fair in Round Top, Texas.  Look at this little beauty I found for only $30!!!  We were overwhelmed by everything that was there, but I think this table will be another fun DIY project and will fit perfectly in my kitchen nook. 

I could have spent the whole weekend there looking at everything... There just isn't enough time in the day.

Godparents squared

This past weekend D and I made the trip up to Kansas to meet Easton Lane Fisher, and be his godparents at his baptism.  He was only 10 days old and a serious bundle of love.  Matt and Amanda, you did good! :o)

Loves of Austin - Enchanted Rock

After almost three years in Austin, we finally made it out to Enchanted Rock.  A few Sundays ago, we woke up way too early, loaded up the car and headed out west.  Although I was exhausted from an awesomely amazing wedding the night before, and the time change was not on my side either,  I was excited to be outdoors.  It turned out to be the perfect day to go climb a rock with the family and the pups.  We called Bella our little billy goat.  She didn't let any rock, not matter the size, stop her from jumping up and being crazy.  She was all over the place and loving the new pups she met on the way up.  We packed PB&J's for lunch and with a few camel-backs, we were ready for our family adventure. This is definitely a fun place to take the pups, but definitely go on a cloudy day!

We had such a fun time.  We were only out there for 3 hours, but we could have spent the rest of the day there.

Project - Canvas

When my parents moved down to Austin, so came all of our 'crap' that we had stored at their house.  Now that I have a house, I figured I should relieve them of their storage duties.  My brother had this huge canvas that he didn't want anymore and offered for me to place it on my fireplace mantle.  Browsing through numerous blogs, I remember seeing this design, and I knew it would be perfect on my own fireplace. 

Luckily, I had all the grey paint, tape and Killz for the project.  The only thing I really had to make was a stencil for the design.  I basically took an 8.5x11 piece of card stock and cut it in half length wise.  I taped them together in an over lapping pattern, and I was set to go. 

{Step One} Killz the entire canvas - three times.  Yes, my brother had some interesting colors on there before hand

{Step Two} Trace out the pattern with a pencil

{Step Three} Tape over the lines - showing the ones that I would paint grey

{Step Four} Paint the grey stripes - two times

{Step Five} Possibly my favorite part - pulling off the tape.  How can you not love that beautiful line

{Step Six} Followed by my least favorite part of using a small brush with the white paint to fix any bleeds from the grey paint.

I love the results!!!  Thoughts?

Falling in Love is like owning a Dog

My adorable bride and groom from this weekend customized their whole ceremony and included this poem as one of their readings.  They tweaked their reading, but I included the whole poem below.  I had never heard it before, but I loved it because it's so true.  

Falling in Love is like owning a Dog

First of all, it's a big responsibility,
especially in a city like Austin.
So think long and hard before deciding on love.
On the other hand, love gives you a sense of security:
when you're walking down the street late at night
and you have a leash on love
ain't no one going to mess with you.
Because crooks and muggers think love is unpredictable.
Who knows what love could do in its own defense? 

On cold winter nights, love is warm.
It lies between you and lives and breathes
and makes funny noises.
Love wakes you up all hours of the night with its needs.
It needs to be fed so it will grow and stay healthy.

Love doesn't like being left alone for long.
But come home and love is always happy to see you.
It may break a few things accidentally in its passion for life,
but you can never be mad at love for long. 

Is love good all the time? No! No!
Love can be bad. Bad, love, bad! Very bad love.

Love makes messes.
Love leaves you little surprises here and there.
Love needs lots of cleaning up after.
Sometimes you just want to get love fixed.
Sometimes you want to roll up a piece of newspaper
and swat love on the nose,
not so much to cause pain,
just to let love know Don't you ever do that again! 

Sometimes love just wants to go for a nice long walk.
Because love loves exercise.
It runs you around the block and leaves you panting.
It pulls you in several different directions at once,
or winds around and around you
until you're all wound up and can't move. 

But love makes you meet people wherever you go.
People who have nothing in common but love
stop and talk to each other on the street.

Throw things away and love will bring them back,
again, and again, and again.
But most of all, love needs love, lots of it.
And in return, love loves you and never stops.
