Eighteen Months

I can't believe how quickly the last 18 months have flown by.   Isla has changed so much in the last six months, I don't even know where to start.  My sweet little babe is such a big girl these days.  She is an absolute hoot.  I adore experiencing this stage with her.

18 months, you were 21 pounds 9 ounces and 29.75 inches long!

Isla had her 18 month appointment this past week.  Our doctor said that she might remember her last visit and it would be rougher this time around, and boy did she.  She was not a happy camper!  As soon as we went back to get weighed and measured she was in tears.  I don't think the weight they got was too accurate, at home she is coming in at around 23 pounds.    She has started to lean out and doesn't seem like the littlest one her age anymore.  Besides the well check, the only thing she got this time was her flu shot.

As far as her clothes, she is still fitting into a few of her 12 month pants, but mainly is wearing 18th month items.  Her legs still aren't crazy long, but I feel like she's growing away!  Isla is wearing a size 5 shoe and rocking a size 3 diaper, although I think she'll be moving to the 4's before long.  We are no longer using any cloth diapers and mainly stick to Honest diapers, since her skin is so sensitive.  We really (knock on wood!) haven't had any skin issues lately.  I'm hoping she has grown out of it, but the Aveno eczema lotion has really helped.

We've been welcoming two of her back teeth on the left hand side.  So far, those teeth have been the worst!  We are so ready for her chompers to come in so she can chew her food better!  She still loves to brush her teeth and still dances to our song the whole way through.  She started using some non-floride toothpaste, which she thinks is pretty cool.

Isla started at a child development center on the 1st of September.  At first she wasn't so sure about it and started to show some separation anxiety with me.  The first day wasn't so bad, but day 2 and 3 she was pretty upset at going.  She would recognize the building and start holding me tight and crying.  It was a little heart breaking.  Leaving your baby when they are a mess goes against all of your motherly instincts.  She goes MWF and this week she has done so much better.  Her teachers are very sweet and they've made the transition so much easier.  Today she didn't cry at all, so I know she's starting to love it.  She's making friends with her 5 classmates (3 girls and 2 boys) and loves seeing her photos up in the room and the classroom fish.   Her daily schedule there is drop off between 9-10 AM (which is play time in the classroom), 10 AM they all have a snack, 10:30 AM is playground time until lunch at 11:15 AM.  Nap time starts around 12:15 PM and pick up is at 2 PM.

In the last month Isla has really shown her little stubborn/frustrated side.  She starts to get mad at something and will try and pull my hair/hit or mainly throw stuff to show her frustration.  Sometimes it is just so funny, D and I have to hide our laughs from her.  Isla really is pretty good and letting it go, but it's cute to see her start to figure out her emotions.  Her speech is developing and she has quite a few words in her vocabulary.  Her favorites right now are Momma, Dadda, stop (mainly saying this to the dogs), Bella, bus, Hmmm, swing and more (mostly asking for food).  She makes all kinds of noises from dogs to cats to all of the farm animals.  Meow is one of her favorites.  She elongates the word and bobs her head up and down and has even pretended that she was a cat a few times.  She loves to bounce/roll around on our bed and has mastered the 'downward dog' position as well as a push up a few times (after seeing dad do a few on Saturday).

Isla is still such a good eater.  She has her days that she wants to be picky, but it amazes me how much she eats.  Some of her favorites she devours are grapes (cotton candy variety as of late), peanut butter, Amy's cheddar bunnies, bacon, cheese, sweet potatoes and yogurt.  She searches out food and is such a little bird if someone else has any.  She just knows you have food and will come up and open her mouth for a bite.  One of her favorite things to do right now is to sit on the kitchen counter in the morning and watch daddy make his lunch.  She likes to take a bite out of each piece of bread he gets out, she sticks her finger in the mayo and D gives her a small bite of cheese and turkey in the morning.  She says 'mmm' after each bite.  It's the cutest thing ever.  This week, she took his apple and decided to eat almost half of it while he was outside feeding the cats.

She still would be outside the majority of the day if we let her.  Isla surprised me when I heard her counting to 3 by herself the other day.  She was unloading the plates from the dishwasher and counted each one that she pulled out... 1, 2, 3.  We are working on 1-5, but this momma was pretty proud.  She is such little talker/singer/hummer.  You will hear her humming Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and dancing whenever she hears a song come on.

Isla sleeps the entire night, from 7 PM - 6 AM, most nights.  Sometimes she decides to get up early, around 5:30 AM, and on the rare occasion we get lucky enough that she sleeps until 6:30 AM.  Starting school, traveling and her teeth have been messing with her sleep.  She's getting back to normal, but there for a while, she was getting up at night and not napping for every long.  She still takes her one nap at noon, which lasts for about 1.5-2 hours.  I've heard of these 3 hour naps some kids take, but I'm just not that lucky.  We are typically up early anyways, so its mainly on the weekends.

My sweet bug, I love you, I love you, I love you.  Sometimes I just can't squeeze you tight enough.  You warm my heart and my soul. xxoo
