7 months, you were 16 pounds (with clothes on) and TBD (I forgot to measure her) inches long!
I didn't do the best job weighing or measuring her today. Isla is dealing with her first real sickness, so our normal morning photo shoot and measuring was not happening. I took a few photos and they mostly ended in a frown. I will try and measure/weigh her tomorrow, but I'm estimating she is 15.5 pounds with out clothes. Right now she is still fitting perfectly in most of her 6 month clothes. I can even squeeze her into some of her 3 month clothes, if they are the brands that make longer skinnier clothes vs the short and fat ones. Before our trips, I realized I had no winter clothes for her. I immediately did some online shopping and got a ton of long sleeves, pants, sweaters and socks/tights. We are fully stocked, but she was swimming in some of them on the trips. I just couldn't justify getting her current size, since it's not super cold here until late November/December. This past week, I went to Carters and bought her new grouping of pajamas, 9 months. They are a little big, but really she fits in them. She's not swimming in them like I thought she would be. She also is in mostly 9 month pants/leggings due to her diaper. When we've traveled and put her in a regular diaper, they do go up to her chest, which is comical and adorable all at the same time. We are still loving the cloth diapers and haven't moved up any snaps quite yet.
Her biggest milestone this month has been her sitting on her own. It only took a few days before she got the hang of it and now loves being able to sit and play with her toys. It's definitely made tummy time happen even less, which makes me wonder if she is ever going to crawl. I still haven't seen her really rolling around, but we did wake up to her completely turned around (head where her feet were) in her crib. She loves to use the railing to walk her self the other direction. The first time I saw it, I was dumfounded. She was still completely wrapped in her blankets, but just the other direction. Isla is a ninja. Isla is all about standing as well. What once was her standing straight legged, has now turned into her bouncing up and down and lifting her leg up and tapping it on the ground. We laugh that she is doing the 'stankey leg'. I fear that my daughter will be walking much faster than I would like.
Isla still LOVES her solid foods. Her current schedule has her eating solids, sometimes a full 2 ounces and sometimes just a few bites, 3 times a day. She has to help pick out her food and help put it in the microwave. Her eyes get huge and she just loves to be a part of the process. Her schedule hasn't changed much. The biggest change has been her taking longer afternoon naps and skipping her cat nap in the 4-5 o'clock hour. We are still breastfeeding, 7 AM, 11 AM, 3 PM and 7 PM. Solids are 8 AM, 12 PM and 4 PM. New flavors we have tried include the yogurt and premixed packs from the store. She wasn't a huge fan of either of those. I have decided that she doesn't like the citrus that is in the store boughten food. It's either that or she is super spoiled with fresh food and is just going to be a picky eater. The worst symptom we've seen in correlation with the solids has been constipation. NO GOOD! The poor girl was having the hardest time pooping. We've started increasing the liquids she is having and including applesauce or prunes in her daily menu. It's helped, but constipation is the worst. D had to give her a suppository once, because it had gotten so bad.
My poor child has to deal with some dry skin along with the rest of the issues lately. She has the worst dry patches on the front part of her ankles. She's gotten a few spots on her arms and I've seen her get a dry rash a few times when she gets too hot or sweaty. This girl can't get a break. She had this at her last appointment and we've been putting on some triple cream that the doctor gave us to help moisturize. I should really look into other natural options for dry skin, but haven't had the chance to.
Napping for Isla has gotten much better. She typically takes at least an hour nap in the morning and longer in the afternoons. It's been really nice to see her sleeping during the day more. At night, she still will wake up one time about an hour after going down, but goes back to sleep pretty quickly after a little soothing. The night time sleep is either a full nights sleep or she gets up one time. She typically will eat if she gets up, which I'm starting to think is more for comfort than necessity. I mean, the girl has some cheeks! I don't mind getting up once, most nights. The worst is when she gets up right as we are going to bed and I'm really an exhausted mess.
Isla is really starting to get her giggle on. She is typically such a happy baby, but is very observant and unamused with most things. However, the dogs are still the best and funniest things around. Mom is a close second and Dad gets a good giggle every few days. I just love her laugh. Lately, she has her hands in her mouth constantly, so it muffles that sound that I love. Still no teeth popping through, but man she is sure chewing on everything! She likes to sing with mom occasionally in the car, which is really her just making a loud noise as I sing. She hasn't babbled any new sounds, but does love hearing us say 'mom' and 'dad'. It gets her smiling every time.
More so this month, Isla has become a huge momma's girl. If I'm in the house, she really wants to be around me or in my arms. If it's just me, I can put her down or have her play in her chair, but she is less excited about playing on her own with grammy or D. Now that she can sit up, she loves to hold the books as we read them. She also enjoys her yellow ball that she can chew on as well as a few new interactive toys that grammy got her.
Isla has traveled all over the place this last month. First we took a 4 day trip to Portland, which she did amazing on. She enjoyed the plane rides and didn't have any gas or ear issues on the journey. She stayed on her central time schedule, so around 5 PM she was out for the night. That meant we would put her down and then I'd wrap her as we walked to dinner or out that night. We didn't go crazy, but would enjoy a beer or two as she was asleep. The worst was the early mornings, but she would take her 2nd nap quickly, which left mom and dad sleeping again as well. We didn't bring along a pack and play, but rather had her sleeping on the bed with us. I was super nervous about it at first, but it ended up being great. It allowed me to feed her mid night with out having to get up in the cold! We also took a car outside of Portland exploring one day, which she was totally fine with.
Then this past weekend we traveled up to Kansas for her to meet her Grandma and Papa D in Hutch. After the quickest day there, we continued our travels up to Nebraska for a family wedding. She got to meet my whole extended Kuhlman family. We had the best time, even though Isla was hanging on me most of the time. I think we all were dreading driving home from the trip. Like the travels up, we left at night. On the ride up, I found out that having a blanket covering her eyes (hanging over the carseat) is the only way she can get to sleep and stay asleep. The lights are too much stimulation, so having this up was key. On the way back, we left at night, but Isla was starting to have some drainage that day before we left. She seemed okay, but as we crossed the Oklahoma line, I felt her hand and it was on fire! We stopped at a gas station and she was running a 103 degree fever. Needless to say, I had a little bit of a freak out moment. We were in the middle of no where and Isla had to be in her car seat to go anywhere. She sounds like crap and couldn't breath due to chest and nose congestion. I have read about the virus that has been going around, so that didn't help the situation. Luckily, our pediatrician has a after hours line, which we called. The NP said that we needed to give her medicine for the fever, which we had and watch it over the next few hours. I had a blanket on her, which I don't think helped her heat level sitting in that warm carseat. With that removed and her tummy full, we were able to get to Oklahoma city. She ended up falling asleep on the ride there and we decided to just keep going vs getting a hotel room. We ended up making it home, but having this mixed with pouring rain made for the longest most stressful drive ever! Needless to say, we will not be driving like that again. We will stick to flying.
Even though it seems like Isla has had the hardest month, she is still such a great baby. Even when not feeling well, she still can get a big old smile on her face. It lets me know that she is going to be okay and she just needs a little extra love. Isla, I am so blessed to have you in my life!
