Prague to Munich ... Day Seven

Our last morning in Praha was pretty quick.  We got up nice and early to get packed.  Our train left at 9:15 AM, so we wanted to be early just in case.  Walking to the train station, it starting raining on us.  I was sad to leave Prague, but I'm glad we weren't there when it was cold AND rainy.  It would have been hard to enjoy the city.  We passed this huge building on the way to the station.  We never made it in here, but it was so pretty I had to capture it on camera.

Once we got to the station, we sat at a coffee shop there and waited until our platform number came up on the screen.  We only had a few coins, but it was just enough for us to split a latte.  We broke open the last of our chocolate biscuits and shared the latte.

Here is a view of the station and then our seats on the train.

We actually got to have the 4 person space to ourselves for most of the ride, which was amazing.  On the train ride, we were giggling about how him or I would keep trying to steal the strawberry bar.  We had an odd number left, so we were trying to snatch it while the other snoozed.  We also ended up playing Mancala on my phone on the ride, which I totally kicked his butt.  This train ride was interesting because we would stop at stations and our train would actually change direction.  That happened 3 or 4 times through out the ride.  I was able to actually capture some photos on this train that weren't horrible.

These were the most amazing crackers that we had gotten at the store the day before.  They were SUPER addicting!  We ate the whole bag way too quickly.  We also saw this group somewhere along the trip.  I mean, why not take a horse ride through the snow?

After spending most of the day sitting on the train, we were happy to finally make it to Munich.  We walked from the station and found our hotel.  It was more on the 'hostel' style, where we had our room with a sink, but shared a bathroom

We pretty much dropped off our stuff off as quickly as we could and made our way to our first brewery.  D was VERY excited to finally have some tasty beer!

This was the street our hotel was on.  Most of Munich is pretty packed and not a ton of greenery in the heart of the city.  Our first stop was the original brewery location of Augustiner.  We were pretty early in the afternoon, so it was pretty empty when we first arrived.  This original location is actually on the other side of the city from most of the major attractions.

We were thrilled to enjoy a few beers and then ventured to the other side of town before it got too dark.

I was actually surprised when we were walking how fancy the center shopping area was.  Even though it wasn't actually snowing that night, it still was pretty chilly.  How gorgeous was this building we stumbled upon?

We made it through one of the major squares, and after some searching, we ended up finding the Hofbrauhaus.  We came into a packed restaurant and found a tiny little corner for us to enjoy some more beer.

These huge babies were just the start of our night.  Needless to say, we started to just be silly and take some even sillier pictures...  Don't worry, we did get a basket of bread and pretzels to soak up some of the drinks.

We had a great time just people watching and enjoyed the live music and the old men there with their legit steins.  Then, because we hadn't had enough, we went across the street to Augustiner for one beer.  By that point I think we were both spent.  It was freezing there, still not snowing, but just a wet cold.  We made it as quickly back to our hotel as we could in search for some yummy kebabs.  Luckily there was one right across the street and it was quite delicious!

Prague ... Day Six

Sleeping in on vacation is one of the perks that we fully took advantage of.  Especially since we had been walking so much the day before, it was heavenly.  We woke up to the sun shining, which we hadn't seen much of since we arrived.   That gave us a little pep in our step.

We each had one of our tasty strawberry bars to get us started = best start to the day.  We decided to try a different coffee house that morning.  D's choice was much prettier than mine.  I loved the cup, thus a pretty picture.

So the ground was definitely still covered in snow, but with the sun out, it was quite pleasant.  Our itinerary for the day was really just to go see the Jewish Cemetery and wander around to places we haven't been.   We walked towards the Jewish cemetery and ended up walking around the outside gate prior to finding the entrance.  We were able to take some pictures of the head stones.  They are unsure how many are buried here, but they estimate around 12,000 head stones and more that were not given a stone.

We finally made it around the exterior and found the entrance.  It's really hidden in the middle of town.  We didn't actually end up going in, since mostly we wanted to see the stones and they were covered in piles of snow.  We walked around the area and took more pictures of exteriors and the city.

We stumbled upon the fancy area of Praha that had all the high end hotels and shopping.  We window shopped and followed that block around until it ended us back in the square again.  It was nice outside, so we enjoyed some of the street performers and live music that was out that afternoon.

By that point we were starving and lunch was on the mind.  D had been having his eye on the kebab's for the last few days, so he found a place that was supposed to be yummy, and we walked to the opposite side of our place to find lunch.  This little restaurant was on a street we hadn't been before.  It was small, but people were there, which I always take as a good sign.

We both got the Doner kebab for lunch, which was massive and delicious.  They cut their meat pretty thin, but the bread, veggies and spicy sauce was spot on.  This was my favorite kebab of the trip!

So after we stuffed our faces, we were walking back around the block to our place when a HUGE piece of snow fell off the roof right in front of D.  It scared the crap out of me and luckily didn't hit either of us.  Holy cow, that was unexpected, so needless to stay the rest of the day we walked a little further out from the buildings.

This was our road.  We are the middle door on the right, you can kind of see D peaking out.

Our door was crazy, the amount of locks made you have to turn the key five times before it was open.  We went into a small store on the way back to get a few things for the train ride the next day.  We did stop at our place and I, of course, stole some cake that we had gotten on the way back.  It was a chocolate cake, not super sweet, but hit the spot.

After resting our feet for a short while, we ended up walking to another brewery, and like most things in Europe, they weren't open yet.  It was too early in the day.  So that lead us to do some more window shopping.  We went into this outdoor store looking for a hat and left with laundry detergent.  We figured we would need some along the way.  We stumbled upon this larger market that was my heaven.  They had a massive selection of sausages, so we decided dinner that night would be us cooking in.

Since they all looked so wonderful, we picked 4 out and ended up with some fresh bread and cheese to start the night with.  We also stocked the fridge with some local beers and still had dessert from earlier.  We weren't too far from our place, so we took our goodies back to the fridge and then ventured back out to the brewery.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed a few beers.  I got this 'pink' beer that they had brewed especially for the ladies on Valentine's day.   It came in the smallest, cutest glass and the foam was pink.  It was actually pretty good.  I was a little hesitant.

By that point, we decided we should get back and try to do some laundry.  We went and got a few more beers for dinner and walked back in the mist.  We were gross by the time we got back.  I ended up starting dinner and D started laundry.  We ate and cooked in our undies, it was pretty great.

We started out with the cheese, which was a great decision!  The herbs made it so much better.

I cooked the sausages in beer which caramelized the outside slightly.  I bit into the small one and juice flew across the room. D cut into one and it shot on my cup, table, wall and curtains.  We were laughing hysterically, maybe the beer wasn't the best idea.  We did good though, the sausages we picked were quite tasty.  I'd say we went a little crazy with getting 4!  D loved the darker red one.  Two of them actually had a pretty tough casing and were pretty tough to eat, but still had great flavor.  Needless to say, we enjoyed every last bite and ended with dessert.

The rest of the night we finished laundry, or trying to figure out how to use the dual wash/dryer.  We just hoped that our clothes were dry by the morning.  We turned on the TV and ended up watching The Mexican while packing, which was dubbed over in Czech.  It took us a while to figure out what movie it was.  We had never seen it before, but it was quite hilarious to watch in another language.  It ended up that we did have to get up in the middle of the night to take out semi dried laundry.  We laid it out so it - hopefully - would dry by the morning.
